Steve was born in San Francisco, California, on Oct. 27, 1942, to Dr. Vance M. Strange of Stamps, Arkansas, and Monda E. (Dunn) Strange of San Francisco. He graduated from Kemper Military Academy in Boonville, Missouri, in 1960. He received his Bachelor’s degree in 1964 from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and then served in the Army Reserves at Fort Ord in California.
