Army medical logistics leader recognized after nearly 40-year career – DVIDS

Chris Roan’s nearly 40-year career with the U.S. Army started with an unexpected piece of mail.

That mail — a packet from a military junior college inquiring about his performance on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB — helped set Roan, a recent high school graduate struggling to find his way, on a course to become one of the Army’s top medical logistics experts.

“I just fell in love with the military,” Roan said of his time at the now-closed Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri. “I had no idea what I wanted to do when I joined the Army, but it was the structure of the military that brought me direction. It gave me purpose.”

Rogers attended several schools during his childhood, including Kemper Military School in Boonville, Mo., from 1897-98. He dropped out in the 10th grade to become a cowboy. Mickey was born June 1, 1941, in Corpus Christi, to Louise Roberts and William Goza Harlan. He spent his early years in Venezuela and returned to the United States to complete his high school years at Kemper Military School in Boonville, MO. Mickey went on to attend Texas A&M University before starting work in the oil field. At the age of 24, he served our country in the Vietnam War. He returned home to continue his lifelong oilfield career. Mickey has been a mentor and role model in his profession and to his friends and family as well. He absolutely loved spending time with his family and close friends.

Emmett graduated from Kemper Military Academy with the class of 1951, and then earned an associates degree there. He served in the United States Army. Emmett was a lifelong farmer and cattleman.
