Chris Roan’s nearly 40-year career with the U.S. Army started with an unexpected piece of mail.

That mail — a packet from a military junior college inquiring about his performance on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB — helped set Roan, a recent high school graduate struggling to find his way, on a course to become one of the Army’s top medical logistics experts.

“I just fell in love with the military,” Roan said of his time at the now-closed Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri. “I had no idea what I wanted to do when I joined the Army, but it was the structure of the military that brought me direction. It gave me purpose.”

Truman was born in Fort Worth on February 18, 1933, the son of Dr. C.O. Terrell and Dr. Blanche O. Terrell, well known Fort Worth pediatricians. He attended Kemper Military School and graduated from Paschal High School (1950).

Rogers attended several schools during his childhood, including Kemper Military School in Boonville, Mo., from 1897-98. He dropped out in the 10th grade to become a cowboy. In 1902 and 1903, will traveled in South Africa with “Texas Jack’s Wild West Show,” in which he played “The Cherokee Kid” and did roping tricks. He also traveled in Australia and New Zealand with the Wirth Brothers Circus.

Mickey was born June 1, 1941, in Corpus Christi, to Louise Roberts and William Goza Harlan. He spent his early years in Venezuela and returned to the United States to complete his high school years at Kemper Military School in Boonville, MO. Mickey went on to attend Texas A&M University before starting work in the oil field. At the age of 24, he served our country in the Vietnam War. He returned home to continue his lifelong oilfield career. Mickey has been a mentor and role model in his profession and to his friends and family as well. He absolutely loved spending time with his family and close friends.

Jerry graduated from Saginaw High School and went on to Kemper Military Academy in Missouri. He then went into the United States Navy serving in the mid 1960’s. He was employed at Lamar Pipe & Tile and Kohler Brothers in Saginaw before going out on his own and being self-employed for many years.

Emmett C. Goos, age 89, passed away peacefully at Risen Son Christian Village August 10, 2021. He was born July 11, 1932, to the late Alfred and Etta (Engel) Goos in Council Bluffs, IA. Emmett graduated from Kemper Military Academy with the class of 1951, and then earned an associates degree there. He served in the United States Army. Emmett was a lifelong farmer and cattleman.

Jack was born in San Augustine, Texas, on October 25, 1930, to Henry Jackson Mathews and Orean Blanton Mathews. He graduated from Kemper Military School in Boonville, Mo., and, in 1950, the University of Texas in Austin. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
