George Howard “Hook” McCullough (1920-21) was a native of Fayette, Missouri, and he attended Independence High School in Independence, Missouri and the Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri for his preparatory education. He briefly attended the University of Missouri and then served in the Army during World War I before enrolling at Texas in 1919. He starred at left end on the UT football team for two years and also won two letters in basketball, and was the basketball team captain in 1922. During his lifetime McCullough was regarded as one of the best receivers in the history of the Longhorn football program, and after his death from pneumonia in 1935 the Austin Statesman wrote, “he has been considered the paragon of all southwestern ends, of all time.” He was one of the earliest inductees into the UT Athletics Hall of Honor, joining in 1959 in that hall’s third class.

“You got my boys trophy. We want it back,” Oklahoma football linebacker Torrance Marshall said to Florida State quarterback Chris Weinke in the 2000 National Championship game.

Before arriving at Oklahoma, Marshall attended Kemper Military School, where he had 198 tackles, and then would make his way to Miami-Dade College. After going the junior college route, Marshall would commit to the Sooners, starting in the 1999 season.

David was a 1964 graduate of TF South, Lansing, IL. He attended college at Kemper Military Academy in Missouri and finished his education in 1973 at the National College of Chiropractic, Lombard, IL. David began his chiropractic profession in a small town in Indiana, then came back to Lansing and joined the practice of Dr. Durnin. Subsequently, he opened his own practice in the mid-1980s on Ridge Road and eventually moved his practice to Highland, IN in 2011 . Dave held many positions on the boards of numerous chiropractic societies on both the state and national levels with the most recent being as Treasurer with the American College of Chiropractic Consultants.

Rudy was born Dec. 30, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, and raised by Luigijean and father Clarence Dracka. They moved to Port Clinton when Rudy was a young boy. He graduated from Kemper Military School in 1958 and returned to Port Clinton to work at the family business, Port Clinton Manufacturing. He married Clara Ann Wolf on July 1, 1967. He and Clara had an extremely full life raising their two children. They were active sailors and immensely enjoyed the sailing community at Port Clinton Yacht Club.

Melvin or “Boy” as he was affectionately referred to, was born on Dec. 26, 1930, in Champaign; the son of Melvin Max and Louise (Bridges) LeBaugh. His first job was working at his father’s coal company. After graduating from Uni High School, Melvin attended Kemper Military School in Boonville, Mo., before being drafted into the Army. He served in the Korean War as a lead tanker.

Vivian Hansbrough, in an article printed in the Kansas City Star on Nov. 20, 1977, wrote that when Rogers arrived at Kemper Military School on Jan. 13, 1897, “everyone in sight was aware of him.”

She added, “Mac Koontz, officer of the day on that occasion, reported that Rogers was all dressed in a 10-gallon hat with braided horsehair cord, flannel shirt with red bandana handkerchief, highly colored vest, high-heeled, red-top boots with spurs, and his trouser legs in boot tops.”

This memorable cowboy clothing was soon swapped for a Kemper military-style uniform. The drabness of the school’s dress failed to holster his boisterous personality and resulted in many humorous moments, some of which were compiled in a booklet in 1935 by Lt. Col. A.M. Hitch, superintendent for Kemper.

Following graduation, Jay enlisted in the Army and became a proud member of the 82nd Airborne until his tour was up. After his service, Jay returned to Alpena, Michigan where he met the love of his life Michelle Lynn Ferguson. Smitten with love, they married Aug. 25, 1973 and moved to Marquette, Michigan where he attended Northern Michigan and received his B.A. in science in 1974. Jay was a loyal member of Big Brother/Sisters of America, American legion, and the VFW. He was: 1980 – Big Brother of the Year Sanilac County, 1981 Commander of the Year Sanilac County, 1981 Commander of the Year, 10th District, V.F.W., 1985 Teacher of the Year, Marlette Junior High.
