The Boonville City Council approved a development agreement for senior housing at the former Kemper Military School during its meeting on Monday, August 21.

City Administrator Kate Fjell stated the housing would be for age 55 and older and the council was excited about the proposed development.

Charlie coached and eventually became the Athletic Director at Kemper Military School and College. He then became the principal of Blackwater Elementary, then moved to principal at Glasgow Elementary from 1977-1996 where he retired from education and went to work alongside his wife Barbara. He partook in many community events and activities throughout the years from coaching, refereeing, being with family and friends. If you knew anything about Charlie he loved his family and loved his Kansas Jayhawks.

William Morris Hoge was born in Boonville, Mo., in January 1894 on the campus of the Kemper Military School, where his father served as principal. He was appointed to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1912, graduated in 1916 and was commissioned into the Army Corps of Engineers.

During World War I, Hoge was assigned to the 7th Engineer Regiment and deployed to France. In late 1918, as a battalion commander during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, he led troops in a 20-hour battle while working to bridge the Meuse River. He returned to the U.S. in 1919 and pursued education, training and civil works assignments, receiving a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1922.

The Boonville City Council accepted bills accepting Greenside Drive into the City of Boonville and the transfer of ownership of Barracks A and D to the Boonville Community Development Corporation during a recent meeting.

Greenside Drive, which was built by a developer will be accepted into the Fox Hollow Subdivision and the city will be taking it over for maintenance purposes. Barracks A and D at the former Kemper Military School will be transferred to the Boonville Community Development Corporation to secure grant funding to clear asbestos. The city is not eligible for the grant program though the corporation is eligible because it is a non-profit.
